Projects
We have a fair number of projects that involve inspecting condos for storm damage. Most of our work is from roughly Mobile, Alabama on though the panhandle of Florida. This line of work seems to keep one of our consulting teams busy just about all year. A typical project is one which Randy Davis and Joel Scott, both of our Richardson office, have been involved with for the past few months and located in Orange Beach, Alabama. Our role, in this case, is to investigate the condition of the condo, its units and things like windows, handrails and exterior facilities, like pools and pool houses. A couple of pics are shown below to give you a sense of what we seem to be doing just about every day – inspecting large condo units to help identify issues and develop potential solutions – right in line with our Artistic Principle!

- Daniel Rasband and Joe Callahan just got back from a site visit in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Although this project was mentioned in a newsletter a few months back, we have now been asked to work with the contractors to help move along the ‘put back’ to a large manufacturing plant that suffered tornado damage. Congrats to Daniel and Joe for growing our relationship with a key client!
- Jacob Welhouse gets involved in a lot of interesting projects. Although he is part of Jax Kneppers, he offices with SC Wright in San Diego. Kind of a neat thing to see given the investments we have made in our network to allow that kind of thing. He took the time to describe a couple of his recent projects for this newsletter.
RECENT Projects

Fort Sutter Hotel in Sacramento is a boutique hotel developed by a popular restauranter. When aluminum window assemblies failed water testing during construction, the owner and architect brought in JKA to investigate and design a solution to the problem. One of the main issues was a failure in the fluid-applied rough opening
flashing. JKA provided remediation design details and monitored the repairs.

Mercy Housing is a 3 building affordable housing development in West Sacramento. JKA was hired as a waterproofing consultant to the architect. We assisted in reviewing and designing the building envelope weather barrier system. JKA also directed mockup detailing and quality control water testing. During construction, the vinyl Milgard windows developed systemic frame cracks throughout the project. JKA investigated the possible causes and advised ownership on paths to resolution.
